A Wedding Planner in the Off-Season

Yes, just like flowers and sports teams we wedding planners have an off-season, a period of dormancy that allows us to re-charge our creative batteries. The difference is our off-season changes from year to year. For example, this year I had a relatively quiet June and July, but my August, September and October were crazy busy. So far my 2014 is looking very different from my 2013, but I know that will change in the coming weeks.

Now that my 2013 wedding season is over I’m taking advantage of the quieter days to visit venues that are new to me. My colleague, the talented and creative Meagan Eagles of Weddings Tied with Lace, organized a special day recently when she invited a group of us to the White Oaks Resort & Spa in Niagara-on-the-Lake last weekend to enjoy a venue tour, luncheon and networking event.

I have visited NOTL many times but this was my first visit to White Oaks. To say I was impressed would be a huge understatement. Sales Manager Laura Beck and her associate Josie provided an extensive and informative tour of their beautiful resort. White Oaks truly offers couples everything they (and their guests) could want: a variety of well appointed event spaces, including a beautiful garden space for outdoor ceremonies; elegant and comfortable guest rooms; full fitness facilities; a spa and beauty salon for wedding day pampering and primping; delicious food. The icing on the cake? A professional staff that genuinely understands the value of outstanding customer service. Laura, Josie and their staff will jump through flaming hoops to ensure that your day is the best it can possibly be.

We enjoyed a fabulous lunch in this private room, beautifully designed by Michelle Brennan-Allen of Fresh Collaborative Events – one of White Oaks preferred vendors.

The Niagara area is our Napa Valley; a lovely and bountiful region rich in history and blessed by Mother Nature. If you’re considering a wedding in this special region I encourage you to visit White Oaks. I know you’ll be very impressed.
