Rent Frock Repeat

Closet Full of Clothes but Nothing to Wear

September was a crazy month for me, work-wise and personally. Our social calendar was unusually busy with two weddings and one big honkin’ corporate bash. Fun times ahead…

…until a quick search of my closet revealed I had nothing appropriate to wear to any of these events. It’s the classic girl dilemma isn’t it? A closet full of clothes, but nothing to wear. Yes, I could have worn one of my LBDs, but it was time for a fresh look. Buying three new dresses was not an option so I did the only sensible thing a gal could do:  I booked an appointment at Rent frock Repeat.

Co-founded in 2011 by Lisa Delorme and Kristy Wieber, Rent frock Repeat is your new best friend. What Lisa and Kristy offer is the most genius idea ever:  designer rentals. Yes, rentals. The perfect solution to your “OMG What Will I Wear?!” problem.

With an outstanding roster of designer dresses in sizes that range from 0 to 24 – they even provide a back-up dress in a second size to ensure your frock is the right fit – finding your perfect frock is fun and easy. And can you imagine a better option for those occasions where you know you’ll only wear a dress once? They do a booming business in prom, bridesmaids and Mother of the Bride/Groom rentals.

What I loved about the experience was the fresh perspective from my consultant Lauren. I selected some dresses; she selected some dresses. I also dragged along my personal fashion consultant (aka my daughter Andrea). Here are my choices:

Andrea picked out this jacquard cotton Pink Tartan dress that I liked so much I bought it. (Occasionally RfR sells sample dresses at a discount.) It’s both super cute and super comfortable.

The dress was perfect for the Turner Fleischer Architects  40th Anniversary Party which took place in a huge, raw warehouse space downtown, and for the farm wedding we attended two weeks later in Norfolk County. It’s my first choice for a family party coming up next month.

My rental dress was Lauren’s pick, this beautiful David Meister one-shoulder number; a lovely dress for Sarah and Erik’s elegant late summer wedding at Langdon Hall.

Can’t make it to their studio space? No problem. RfR makes it easy for you to rent your perfect dress from the comfort of your computer screen. Their comprehensive website provides all the details you need to make the right decision. Simply sign-in, review the dozens of gorgeous dresses, and rent your frock. It will arrive via Canada Post a few days later. When the dress is ready to be returned you just put it into the prepaid envelope and pop it in the post. If you need the human touch simply set up a Skype appointment with one of their consultants.

To quote Lisa and Kristy: We believe in fashion democracy; all women, regardless of age, size, geographic location or economic background should have access to beautiful garments and accessories.  We believe collaborative consumption is a way to enjoy the pleasures of wearing something new without leaving a carbon footprint.  We believe in corporate social responsibility and are proud that Rent frock Repeat focuses on a triple bottom line of people, planet, profit.

Save money. Save space in your closet. Save the planet. And look fabulous while doing so!
