We Don’t Need No Education…Or Do We?

Leaders are always learning

“We don’t need no education….”

These lyrics were famously sung by Pink Floyd in Another Brick in the Wall (from their seminal album The Wall).

But I disagree with Roger Waters et al.

Because, whatever industry you’re in, yes you do. You need continuing education.

I recently spent a head-spinning (in a good way) few days in Las Vegas where I attended Wedding MBA. This was the first time I’ve attended this amazing conference and I can’t tell you how worthwhile the experience was. Over the course of 2-1/2 days I attended 17 seminars, jotted down pages of notes and came home re-energized about my business.

Closer to home, I’m looking forward to The Business of Weddings November 10th here in Toronto. This inaugural event, co-produced by award winning DJ Michael Coombs and event styling diva Cynthia Martyn is a day-long symposium catering exclusively to the Canadian wedding industry. Michael and Cynthia have assembled an outstanding line-up of industry thought leaders. I know my brain will be exploding by the end of the day. Again, in a good way.

And in the coming weeks I will be doing an online course to become Green Wedding Certified. More couples are looking to lighten their environmental footprint on their wedding day and this training will set me apart as a wedding pro who truly understands how to create a beautiful and meaningful day while treading lightly on Mother Earth.

Like every industry the world of weddings is in a constant state of evolution and change. In fact, change is the only constant. As a wedding professional I can stay stuck in my comfort zone (same might say rut) or I can take advantage of all the amazing knowledge available to help me be the very best I can be. Which, in the end, helps my clients.

Take that Pink Floyd.
