Your Crowning Glory

With Easter still top of mind I’ve been thinking about the Easter bonnets my sister and I used to wear as children, lovingly handcrafted by our multi-talented milliner grandmother.

And from Easter bonnets my thoughts naturally meander to bridal headwear.

The options for headwear – like most things in the bridal world – are many. There is a head-spinning variety of choice available to brides. From your mother’s vintage veil to a custom-designed piece, where does a girl start? How do you choose the best headpiece to top off your bridal ensemble? A funky little black tulle & feather fascinator may not be the most appropriate choice for Westminster Abbey. Nor does a cathedral veil make sense for a beach wedding.

Let the overall style of your wedding and, most specifically, your dress dictate your best headpiece choice.

Toronto offers local brides an abundance of designers and retailers. Today I want to introduce you to two of Toronto’s best and most exciting custom designers: Blair Nadeau Millinery and David Dunkley of KC’s Hats.

Working in her charming downtown Toronto loft Blair Nadeau uses the finest materials to handcraft her stunning creations. You can see Blair’s work in the finest bridal publications such as WedLuxe and Wedding Bells. Recently Wedding Industry Experts named Blair Nadeau Millinery one of the Top 10 Bridal Accessory Designers in the world. High praise indeed.

Here’s a look at some of Blair’s stunning creations:

David Dunkley of KC’s Hats also creates his gorgeous, bespoke headwear from his studio space in downtown Toronto. David is an international award-winning milliner with strong ties to the British Royal Family. He even studied with the former milliner to Her Majesty, the late Queen Elizabeth, the Queen Mother. Check out these examples of David’s work, pretty enough for a princess.
